Social Media Ban for Under 16's
The UK governemnt are considering copying Australia's ban of social media for under 16's. However, not all experts agree on this.
Not everyone agrees that a full ban is the best solution. Some digital health researchers argue that evidence on age-based bans is still limited.
Experts suggest that a balanced approach may work better, combining:
Stronger moderation of harmful content.
Safer algorithms for younger users.
Better digital literacy for children and parents.
I'm not convinced. Surely its taking away responsibility from platforms; social media companies need to moderate better to keep all of us safe! This link to the Register has valid points about this: https://www.theregister.com/2026/01/21/uk_social_media_ban/

Patron - Park View Project
Hi Bob, noticed we have a new patron, or should I say our first patron. I she an artist? Her posters shown in Our Blog are excellent.
Hi, Yes. She has been compiling art, which she does digitally over the extended period of time over Xmas & New Year. I'm hoping she will attend some of our sessions in the near future.

Accessible Digital Drop-in Hub
What is digital support all about:
The move towards a digital society presents significant obstacles for older adults and disabled people, many of whom find it difficult to remain independent due to restricted internet access. Contributing factors include a lack of digital skills, uncertainty about the advantages of being online, concerns around privacy and cybersecurity, as well as issues of affordability and availability. At the Park View Project, older individuals often encounter hurdles such as reluctance to embrace new technology, low self-esteem, and limited confidence, whereas younger disabled people may be vulnerable to abuse, online bullying, and physical & sensory accessibility issues.
Consider joining our Digital Drop-In sessions to volunteer or discover ways to help close the digital gap—your involvement could truly benefit your local community.
